Albania gained independence on 28th November,1912 from the Ottoman Empire. This year marks the nation’s 100 years of independence but it is not only Albanians who might be celebrating at the end of the football season. The winner of this season’s golden boot will forever be remembered in the country’s history as he will be the nation’s Centenary topscorer. Croatian striker Pero Pejić (29) is Skënderbeu Korçë’s signing of the year and he has became an immediate hit. Last season, Pero Pejić scored 9 goals in 13 appearances for Flamurtari Vlorë. He was snapped up by Superliga leaders Skënderbeu Korçë from Flamurtari Vlorë with fellow Croatian Toni Pezo.
Pero Pejić is this season’s top scorer with 10 strikes in 11 league games. He was the 2007/08 Superliga topscorer with 13 goals when he was at KS Dinamo Tirana. Pero finished second topscorer two seasons ago scoring 14 goals as a KF Tirana player. He can increase this season’s tally by scoring a few goals against league strugglers Luftëtari Gjirokastër today.
